WITHOUT A DATA MOVEMENT PLANE
- each downstream use can create another collection path
- parsing and preparation are repeated
- data movement becomes part of individual application architecture
- adding another use can require additional upstream work
THE DATA MOVEMENT PLANE™
ClaraStream uses the term Data Movement Plane™ to describe infrastructure that sits between where data is created and the systems that use it. Its role is to receive supported data, prepare it in flight, and make that prepared data continuously available for multiple downstream uses.
Prepare once. Use many.
THE CATEGORY
In many environments, applications, analytics platforms, AI systems, storage platforms, and other downstream uses independently collect, parse, transform, and move the same underlying data.
A Data Movement Plane moves that preparation and movement into shared infrastructure. Data can be received earlier in the path, transformed into a prepared form, and made continuously available before individual downstream systems create their own independent paths to the same data.
WHY IT EXISTS
When each downstream system owns its own collection and preparation process, adding another application or use can mean adding another path back to the source.
That repeats infrastructure work and can make data preparation part of every new project.
A Data Movement Plane separates shared data preparation and distribution from the systems that ultimately consume the data.
CORE FUNCTIONS
Receive supported data as it is generated, closer to where it originates.
Transform incoming data in flight from its source form into a structured, prepared form that downstream systems can consume more directly.
Publish prepared data continuously so multiple authorized downstream subscribers can use the same prepared stream for different purposes.
The downstream system determines how the data is ultimately used.
WHAT CHANGES
WHAT IT IS NOT
It is not an analytics platform, AI application, historical system of record, data warehouse, or downstream business application.
Its role is earlier in the architecture: prepare supported data and keep it moving so the systems that need it can consume it.
Systems that require long-term retention can subscribe to the prepared stream and store the data in the storage layer designed for that purpose.
DOWNSTREAM USES
CLARASTREAM
ClaraStream separates data preparation from continuous distribution.
Core and Edge provide two ways to perform the preparation role. Core runs on conventional server infrastructure. Edge is software being developed for programmable infrastructure closer to the data source.
Stream provides continuous distribution of prepared data to downstream subscribers.
Flow combines Core and Stream in one integrated offering.
CATEGORY DEFINITION
A Data Movement Plane is a shared infrastructure layer between where data is created and where it is used, designed to prepare supported data in flight and make that prepared data continuously available for multiple downstream uses.
ClaraStream uses Data Movement Plane™ to describe this architectural role.
